Celtic news: Expert hails Ange Postecoglou's 'Man City' plan after confirmed transfer news
Noel Whelan has hailed Ange Postecoglou for looking to the future after taking the “hard decision” to allow Celtic midfielders Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic to leave the club.
The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, cited the departures of Man City legends Sergio Aguero, David Silva, and Fernandinho as an example of a top team being ruthless in order to stay on top.
Celtic announced on Friday (13 May) that Bitton, 30, and Rogic, 29, will be departing Celtic after over nine years of service and 34 combined trophy wins.
Both midfielders’ contracts were set to run until the end of May 2023 but have been terminated early by the Glasgow giants.
Celtic will compete in the Champions League group stage next season after lifting the Scottish Premiership title.
Whelan claimed Postecoglou will be “looking to the future” in the transfer market after the double departure.

“It won’t have been an easy decision for Postecoglou,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“We’re talking about experienced players. Players who had been at the club long before him.
“It’s never nice, but there’s always a turnaround in football. You can’t ever rest on your laurels and stick with what you’ve got. You have to keep the wheels turning and keep bringing in these fresher faces.
“They’ve been great servants, but the time always comes. It’s about the next season and the seasons after that.
“It’s just like we’ve seen with the likes of Man City.
“They had the pain of letting the likes of Aguero, David Silva, and now Fernandinho go – but it’s never too early to look to the future.
“It’s clever from Postecoglou and his team, even if it was a hard decision.”
