Celtic next manager: Thomas Frank ‘might get bored with the SPFL’ as appointment lined up
Celtic face a tough challenge convincing Thomas Frank to become their next manager when European football is not a guarantee.
That is the view of former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, as Frank is the latest manager to be linked with a move to Celtic.
The Glasgow club will need to appoint a new manager this summer when interim boss Martin O’Neill steps down at the end of the season, with Frank currently out of work.
Frank enjoyed nearly seven years at Brentford, establishing the Bees as a Premier League outfit, before he moved to Spurs, where he found it tough to get the fanbase on side and produce results.
Celtic’s pursuit of Frank could also be tough due to Premier League interest in the 52-year-old, with Crystal Palace one club to have been linked with his services.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Frank may get “bored” of Scottish football due to little competition.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness though believes that Frank would be a success at Celtic Park.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s an interesting one. Thomas Frank, when I saw it, I thought that could work.
“It would get him back into the game at the right level. I think he’s a very good manager, and he was very unlucky at Spurs. They should have stuck with him, and they should have backed him more than they did.
“At Celtic, the trouble is with Frank, he might get bored with the SPFL to a degree. He’s got the European nights, and they’re going to be very, very hard now because Celtic are going to come from a long way back in the qualification phase for Europe.
“And that’s if they qualify for Europe these days, because the Scottish coefficient is so poor. So he knows that he’s got a couple of rivals in Scotland and that’s really it.”
Celtic have ambitious Roberto Martinez plan
Whilst the Hoops are being ambitious in their managerial search, Keith Wyness also told Football Insider that Celtic would have to push the boat out to hire Roberto Martinez.
Martinez, currently in charge of the Portugal national team ahead of the World Cup, would want backing from the ownership to move to Glasgow.
Whilst Martinez could be reunited with Shaun Maloney, the Spaniard would face a major rebuild during his first summer transfer window.
Celtic could lose a host of players this summer, whilst even without any departures, more firepower and defensive solidity need to be added to the squad.
