Why Celtic could have been offered renewed hope in signing Roberts
COMMENT By Danny Wright
Celtic fans have made it no secret that they would love to see Patrick Roberts return to Parkhead over the summer.
The 20-year-old made quite the impression in his 18-month loan spell in Glasgow as he won four major honours and helped Brendan Rodgers’ side achieve an unbeaten domestic campaign.
However all the time the Bhoys supporters had to deal with the fact that Roberts was simply not their player and was still owned by Manchester City.
There could be hope for Celtic though as a report in the Mirror claims that Pep Guardiola is willing to axe 13 players over the summer in order to acquire his big targets.
It is understood that “Roberts may be allowed to move on” from the Etihad – opening up the perfect opportunity for Rodgers to swoop for the attacker over the summer.

Roberts was just as pivotal to Celtic winning the domestic treble as either Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele.
Those two get most of the plaudits but Roberts was a consistent part of Rodgers’ squad and even has the goal contribution record to back himself up.
In 47 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops, the ex-Fulham attacker scored 11 goals and supplied a stunning 19 assists – Sinclair and Dembele simply wouldn’t have been able to find the net without a player like Roberts in the side.
It’s an absolute necessity that Rodgers tries to keep his squad together over the summer.
Dembele may be wanted by some of Europe’s elite but don’t forget about Roberts, who will definitely be playing elsewhere next season unless something is done about it.
