Motherwell have announced that Nadir Ciftci will return to Celtic after his loan spell at Fir Park came to an end.
The Steelmen made the announcement on their official website, with manager Stephen Robinson thanking the player for his contribution to the club.
The player spent the second-half of the season on-loan with Motherwell, and in that time he scored three goals for the Steelmen, in a spell which was interrupted with injury.
The player joined the Hoops from Dundee United in 2015 for a fee of £1.5milllion, but he has rarely featured in his three years at the club, scoring only four goals in three seasons and spending time on loan at Eskişehirspor, Pogoń Szczecin and Plymouth.
Football Insider verdict
Ciftci has to go down as one of the biggest wastes of money in recent years by the Hoops, as he has made only 26 appearances in three seasons, and he still has another year left on his contract. The sooner the Hoops get him off the books the better though, as he is a drain on the Bhoys’ finances, and the money spent on Ciftci could be better off spent on a player who will feature for the Bhoys on a regular basis. There will no doubt be teams in the bottom-half of the Scottish Premiership that could be interested in the player, such as Hamilton or St Johnstone, but if no team is interested in buying the 26-year-old then the Hoops should do the decent thing for the player and pay-off the last year of his contract, as it would allow him to try and get his career back on track, as the move to Celtic Park just hasn’t worked out at all for anybody involved.
