Celtic are plotting a summer move to sign Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Daily Record claims that Brendan Rodgers has been impressed with Edouard, 20, during his loan spell from Paris Saint-Germain.
It is understood that the Hoops have first refusal on the French forward and can sign him for £7million, but they are yet to make a decision on whether to execute that clause in his deal.
If the Scottish champions were to splash the £7million it would be a new club record signing, surpassing the £6million spent on both Chris Sutton and John Hartson.
The report says that Rodgers is ready to hit the button to sign up the lethal finisher, who proved to be the match winner in Celtic’s 3-2 win against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday.
Edouard has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys this season, scoring eight goals and supplying three assists.
Football Insider verdict
There was a lot of scepticism when Rodgers signed Edouard on transfer deadline day in the summer, mainly because of the lack of options in defence and also because he was no doubt going to be third choice behind Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths. However there has been a shuffle in the pecking order this season and Edouard has got a lot more game time than many would have predicted. For his lack of starts, his goalscoring record in Scotland is impressive and he’s only going to keep on improving. Dembele may leave Parkhead in the summer so getting in Edouard, who has already proven himself, would be a good signing for Rodgers to make.
