Celtic are poised to receive a transfer windfall of £5.5million from the sale of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk to Chelsea, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim Brendan Rodgers’ side are in line for the massive pay-out thanks to a sell-on clause inserted into the deal that too the Holland international to St Mary’s Stadium in the summer of 2015.
It is said that Chelsea are confident they have won the race for the signature of Van Dijk, 25, in this summer’s transfer window.
The Scottish Sun report that the Premier League leaders are convinced they have got an agreement with the Dutch centre-back in what is a massive transfer blow to Arsenal.
The cost of the transfer fee for Van Dijk could rise to a staggering £55million, with Celtic in line to net 10 per cent of that sum.

The shrewd Scottish champions inserted the sell-on clause into the £13.5million deal that took the 12-times Holland international to Southampton two years ago.
Van Dijk is recovering from an ankle injury that has sidelined him since late January, forcing him to miss the Saints’ last 11 league fixtures.
But he has made a huge impact at St Mary’s Stadium and is widely regarded as one of the outstanding centre-backs in the Premier League.
Van Dijk has made 68 appearances for Southampton after a similarly successful spell at Celtic, where he played a mammoth 115 matches in just two season.
