Celtic chiefs are preparing for Kristoffer Ajer to quit this summer after his double bombshell, Football Insider understands.
The giant Norwegian defender has gone public with his desire to quit – via his agent – and also knocked back the club’s offers of a new contract.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that there is a growing expectancy that Ajer, who’s just turned 22, won’t be at the club next season.
The Hoops have made a number of attempts to tie him to a new deal, but he has rejected them, including an offer worth up to £25,000-a-week.
That would have lifted the versatile defender up towards the top bracket of earners at Parkhead commanded by the likes of fellow centre-back Christopher Jullien.
Celtic have long been aware of interest in Ajer from leading European clubs, including some in the Premier League.
He has developed impressively over the last 18 months and established a strong centre-back partnership with 2019 signing Jullien.
However, the 14-times Norway international appears to be paving the way for a summer exit.
Ajer’s agent Tore Pederson has already gone public to make clear that Ajer is looking to accept one of the offers he will get to leave Glasgow this summer.
Since signing for Celtic in January 2016, the 6ft 4in defender has made 129 appearances for the club and provided excellent value for the £550,000 transfer fee.
Remarkably, 49 of those came this season before football’s suspension on 13 March.
Ajer has two years remaining on the four-year deal he signed in May 2018.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that club chiefs are raging behind the scenes at agent brokering another attacking star exit.
