Celtic ranked above Rangers in top 30 biggest clubs in Britain - talkSPORT

By Emma Sanders

Celtic have been placed above Rangers in the top 30 rankings of the biggest clubs in Great Britain, according to a listing created by TalkSport.

The media publication pitted Celtic at number nine in a list which includes various Premier League and Championship clubs but only the two teams from Scotland.

Rangers are placed at number 17, a whole eight places lower than Celtic and behind Championship outfit Aston Villa.

The Gers are placed one position higher than former Premier League giants Leeds but Newcastle United have been placed higher than both Old Firm sides.

The standings are based on several factors, including the size of support, the wealth of the club, the size of the stadium, historic success and their current performance standings.

Celtic currently have a 14 point lead at the top the Scottish Premiership table after recording a 3-0 victory against Hamilton on Saturday afternoon to consolidate their position.

Rangers trail in second-place and have failed to win the league title since 2011. They also lost out to their local rivals in the semi-final of the Betfred Cup early this season and Celtic went on to win it with a victory against Aberdeen.

In both Old Firm derby clashes this season, Celtic have come out on top and they recorded a thumping 5-1 victory way back in September.

The two teams go head-to-head on New Year’s Eve but Celtic will go into the clash as favourites having remained unbeaten throughout the domestic campaign in 2016-17.

Manchester United topped the charts, ahead of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.
