Celtic chiefs are convinced Kristoffer Ajer is engineering a big-money transfer during the international break.

The Norway international's position has been the subject of strong speculation all summer and that is likely to continue following the landmark signing today of Shane Duffy.

The Hoops announced they had completed the loan signing of the centre-back from Brighton after extensive talks resulted in an agreement.

Ajer has publicly and privately made no secret of his desire to join a team in one of Europe's major leagues and he has attracted interest from clubs south of the border as well as in Italy.

Celtic have slapped a £20million asking price on the 6ft 4in defender, which has put off some of his suitors.

However, sources at the club have told Football Insider there are fears his camp are using the international break to step up plans to find Ajer a new club.

He is away with the Norway national side, who face Austria on Friday in a Uefa Nations League clash being played behind closed doors.

The Hoops boss told his wantaway stars to quit the club if they were not committed to the cause and it is understood Ajer is one of those he was addressing via the media.

Lennon wants a fourth senior centre-back in his squad for the historic 10-in-a-row tilt along with Duffy, Christopher Jullien and Nir Bitton.
