Celtic are still looking for confirmation of a loan move for Efe Ambrose to join Championship side Blackburn, according to a report.

The Lancashire Telegraph claims that Owen Coyle’s side are still awaiting a decision over a work permit for the Nigeria international to travel south to the Lancashire-based side.

A deal was agreed to take the 28-year-old to Blackburn on deadline day, but a move is yet to materialise with a work permit not yet sanctioned for Ambrose.

There is still no telling when a decision will be made on the former FC Ashdod star’s move to Ewood Park, despite all parties being keen to complete a deal.

Championship rivals Nottingham Forest were also reportedly interested in Ambrose on deadline day, as both clubs looked to bolster their leaky Championship defences.

The Daily Mail claimed on their transfer blog (January 31, 12.18pm) that Forest were keen, but Blackburn stole a march on their rivals.

However, their efforts may go unrewarded as the Football Association and Home Office are yet to decide whether to allow Ambrose to join Rovers.

Football Insider verdict:

In a move that suits both parties, Ambrose will be hoping that he can eventually get regular game time by joining Blackburn. He will have plenty of work to do at the back, with Rovers way down the Championship table in 22nd position and looking to push themselves out of the drop zone. Blackburn will be benefiting from the move, as they will be bringing in an experienced centre back who has 47 Nigeria caps. Celtic will gain an advantage if the move goes through, as they can make a decision on whether to offer the defender a new contract as Ambrose enters the final six months of his current deal.
