McAvennie 'sure' of two Celtic new signings amid update on Baldock swoop
Celtic will sign two new full-backs this summer – and they both need to put more crosses into the box.
That is according to ex-Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Daily Record reported on 27th June that the Sheffield United’s George Baldock is on the Hoops’ transfer radar.
The 28-year-old has a year remaining on his contract and started 32 times for the Blades in the Premier League last season.
Anthony Ralston, 22, is currently the only recognised right-back on the books at Celtic Park.
The Scottish Sun reported on 20th June that Celtic have triggered a one-year extension in his contract that commits him to the club until next summer.
McAvennie claims that Baldock is a step up from Ralston and that next season’s full-backs need to give the strikers more service.

“He’d be an upgrade, I think,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“Ralston has had a chance but I think he can still do something as part of the squad. It’s one of those where you don’t want to get rid of him in case you don’t get anyone in.
“I’m sure he’ll bring in a right-back and a left-back too. But with a new manager, every player is gonna get a clean slate.
“You’ve got to get the ball in the box as a full-back. I hope that’s the kind of player he [Baldock] can be.
“That’s what Rangers were doing all season. You can keep the ball for 30 passes but they make five passes and then score.
“When you have to hold it, hold it. But, as a striker, you just want to get the ball in the box.”
