Celtic tipped for January exodus after board's Wednesday update - pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Celtic will have to sell players if they want to sign anybody in January, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Celtic could be top of the Scottish Premiership by January.

As quoted by the Daily Record last Wednesday (November 17), Ian Bankier told the club’s AGM Ange Postecoglou will be backed in January as they continue their rebuild.

The new Hoops boss lost key players Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Kristoffer Ajer over the summer.

Meanwhile, he has stamped his identity on the squad with the arrivals of the likes Kyogo Furuhashi and Jota.

He also added Leil Abada, Carl Starfelt, Joe Hart, James McCarthy, Josip Juranovic, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Cameron Carter-Vickers to the squad that finished 25 points behind Rangers last season.

Asked whether Celtic will be similarly busy in the winter window given Bankier’s vow, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They could do.

“They might see it as Rangers are now shaky after losing Steven Gerrard and losing the League Cup semi-final.

“But they might also have to sell before they buy. That’s likely and definitely makes sense.

“The tables could be turned in favour of Celtic by January, definitely.”

Celtic are currently just four points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership after 13 games played.

There are eight league games before the two sides meet at Parkhead at the beginning of January.

Celtic also face Hibs in the League Cup final next month after the semi-finals at the weekend.
