McLeish backs Desmond to appoint 'ideal' Celtic chief executive after shock Tom English update
Celtic fans must trust Dermot Desmond to appoint the “ideal” chief executive.
So says ex-Rangers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the search for Dom McKay’s replacement at Parkhead.
The club confirmed McKay’s resignation on 11 September just two months after he began his work in the role.
BBC Scotland‘s Tom English revealed that same day that he had spoken with sources close to McKay who admitted their shock: “everyone was blindsided.”
Michael Nicholson, director of legal and football affairs at Celtic, has since been named as interim chief executive.
And McLeish has backed the Hoops top brass to appoint the perfect candidate after McKay’s unexpected departure.

“Far be it from me to get involved in the politics of any football club,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“But there has been a lot of news about Celtic in the past four or five months. Obviously, the fact that Rangers were going to win the league after nine years.
“That talk has continued to the present day, talking about the chief executive leaving.
“But results have taken a turn for the better under Postecoglou and I think Celtic have got strong people at the helm there.
“Dermot Desmond, I’ve got great respect for that man. He knows what he’s doing. Celtic fans have got to believe that the board are going to get it right.
“I know the board and the fans have clashed, but they have to have faith that they’ll get the ideal person in.”
