Celtic tipped to sign colossus after source reveals Hudlin transfer mission
Ange Postecoglou is targeting an aerial colossus to bolster his attacking ranks at Celtic.
That’s according to former Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest Hoops transfer action.
On 3 September, this site revealed Celtic have set their sights on signing Kyle Hudlin, Britain’s tallest outfield player.
A recruitment source updated to Football Insider that Hoops scout Andy Thorne has watched Hudlin in action on a number of occasions.
On 7th July, this site also revealed Celtic had lost out on signing Charlie Wyke as he elected to join Wigan.
Hudlin is 6ft 9in and Wyke stands at 6ft 2in tall with both players capable of holding up the ball and causing problems for defenders.
Whelan insists it makes sense for Postecoglou to target this type of player.
“Celtic are looking for a different dimension,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.
“You can see that they want a focal point. I completely get that. Wyke is one of those players who has a stature about him.
“You can play long balls up to him and play off him. He holds the ball up so well and that’s what Celtic want.
“They have a lot of technical players in and around that one centre forward Postecoglou would love to have.
“A player like that can draw out defenders which then frees up space for the players in behind.
“I can see why Celtic want to do that. Also, look at when they concede, they aren’t the tallest team in the world.
“Adding a brilliant asset who can attack and defend at corners makes sense.”
