Celtic tipped to sign midfield 'bully' in January after confirmed news - pundit

Frank McAvennie wants Celtic to sign a midfield “bully” during the January transfer window.

The former Hoopshitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the club needs more depth in the middle of the park.

On Wednesday (3 November) Ange Postecoglou told the Daily Record Tom Rogic, 28, still faces a few weeks on the sidelines.

This comes as James McCarthy returns to the Celtic matchday squads after recovering from his latest injury blow.

The former Crystal Palace man has only started three games since joining the club in the summer after struggling with several knocks.

McAvennie insists Celtic are missing an “enforcer” in the midfield and predicts the club will look to strengthen that area in January.

“What Celtic need, is a bully,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We are missing that in the midfield. I also think we just need some backup in there.

“Rogic is injured, McCarthy is always injured so we need a bit more depth there.

“We need to replace what has been missing since Scott Brown left the club.

“A real enforcer. A bully who will get stuck into the opposition as well as into his own team.

“When things aren’t going well, we need someone to give us a kick up the backside.

“I have said before, I think we will invest in January. A proper midfielder would be near the top of my wishlist.”

Celtic are four points behind top of the table Rangers as it stands.

The two sides face each other on 2 January.

In other news, this pundit claims a “top-quality” signing will be first through the door at Celtic in January.
