Celtic to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on 1 July after update - pundit

Celtic will sign Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham as soon as the transfer window opens.

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s future.

Carter-Vickers, 24, scored the winner as Celtic beat Rangers 2-1 on Sunday (2 April).

Sky Sports have reported (29 March) Celtic can make the defender’s loan move permanent for £6million with talks already underway about the structure of the deal.

Tottenham insider John Wenham told this site on Monday (4 April) he expects the deal to go through.

McAvennie hopes a deal can be wrapped up as soon as possible so a lengthy transfer saga can be avoided.

“He has been brilliant at the back and he popped up at the right moment on Sunday,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Ange will want this deal done as soon as the window opens. He won’t want to be messing around.

“The last thing he wants is a transfer saga that means Carter-Vickers doesn’t come back until just before the season starts.

“Let’s get him in early so he can have a full pre-season up here. I think this one will get done.

“I don’t think he has a future at Tottenham and we should be getting the Champions League group money to spend.”

Carter-Vickers has made 39 appearances for Celtic since joining the club on loan from Tottenham.

He has scored four goals and only missed two league games this season.
