Celtic told to hire O'Neill as he's desperate for sensational return - pundit
Martin O’Neill would be a good appointment as the new Celtic director of football, according to Alan Hutton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Rangers and Scotland full-back insisted the Hoops idol could work really well with new manager Ange Postecoglou.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 30 June the 69-year-old is “interested” in filling the vacant post.
As revealed by Football Insider in April, the Hoops held extensive talks with Fergal Harkin of Man City over the position.
An agreement was not reached and the club are yet to fill the position vacated by Nick Hammond at the end of March.
“It would be interesting to see O’Neill,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“He’s obviously a very popular figure at Parkhead. As a manager, he did really good things while he was there.
“Now, at his age, it would be something that he feels he can now go in and do. He knows the club is in a bit of a dip at the moment and they’re going through a rebuild.
“He obviously feels with his experience through club football and international football that he can offer something. I think he could.
“He’s full of experience and would bring a calmness because he’s been in the hot seat himself so he understands the pressure that goes with it. He’d be able to help the manager if they wanted to bounce off each other. That could work well.
“I’ve always said that it’s important the manager and director of football get along. If they’re focusing in the same direction it’s only going to help the club.
“It would be interesting to see if it happened. I think it would be a good move.”
