Celtic told to sell Christie 'as soon as possible' after transfer reveal - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Celtic should sell Ryan Christie if he does not commit to a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker insisted the Hoops need to sort the situation as soon as possible.

The Sunday Post reported, via the Daily Record, on 20 June that Nice and Monaco are both keen on taking Christie to Ligue 1.

The 26-year-old is in a unique situation at Parkhead with his current contract set to expire in January.

He penned an extension in November 2018 that expires at the beginning of 2022.

That means the current transfer window is the only opportunity Celtic have to recoup a fee for Christie.

Asked if he thinks Celtic need to sell the midfielder this summer, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think they should do.

“It’s a case of does he sign a new contract or do they let him leave on a free in January?

“They need to get that sorted as soon as possible really. You don’t want him leaving for free in January, especially a player like that.

“If I was Celtic, I’d give him the next three weeks to choose, sign a new contract or sell.

“Once he’s back in pre-season training get him signed up or sell.”

Christie played 46 games across all competitions for the Bhoys last term but his performances were criticised by the fans.

The Scotland international has scored 40 goals and provided 41 assists in 142 appearances across all competitions in his six-year spell at Celtic.
