Celtic told to sign 'experienced' goalkeeper by Kenny as Hoops icon makes stance known - pundit
Celtic must sign an “experienced” goalkeeper if they want to be competitive with Rangers again next season.
That is according to ex-Premier League keeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Celtic icon Charlie Mulgrew urged the Hoops to sign a new shot-stopper.
Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: “You need to have an established goalkeeper as your No.1. So it’s definitely something Celtic need to address.”
Celtic signed Vasilis Barkas for £4.5million the summer but he has endured a tough season, forced to share the gloves with Scott Bain and Conor Hazard.
Kenny affirmed Mulgrew’s comments, urging Celtic to invest in a “safe pair of hands” who can help them push for the title once again next season.
“The goalkeeping area has got to be dealt with,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“It’s a position that’s key to any team. They need an experienced keeper who has age on his side.
“It’s definitely an area they need to address and make sure they are solid there next season.
“I think they’d be better off going for a safe pair of hands than taking a gamble.
“You’ve got to accept that if you are going to go with a young keeper, he is going to make mistakes. Can they afford that?
“I’m not sure because they need to be pushing Rangers big time next season.”
Celtic surrendered the league title to Rangers in March, ending a nine-year spell of domestic dominance.
A top-to-bottom overhaul of the club is anticipated in the summer.
