Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is facing an uncertain future at Celtic Park, but a decision on his contract situation could soon be announced.

The 32-year-old midfielder joined the Hoops as a free agent halfway through the 2025-26 campaign, going on to make 12 appearances in all competitions.

Despite a bright start to life in Scotland, he quickly fell down the pecking order, playing just 15 minutes of football in the FA Cup final during the final five games of the season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain clearly remained a key figure behind the scenes, even without getting minutes on the pitch, with reports stating that Martin O'Neill was backing him to sign a new contract.

Of course, the entire situation has become far more complicated, with it not guaranteed that the 74-year-old interim coach would stay on after lifting the Scottish Premiership title.

Any concerns that a huge manager search would be underway this summer have now been squashed, though, with Celtic announcing a new one-year deal for O'Neill.

Martin O'Neill's future provides clarity over Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Not everyone at Celtic Park has been convinced by Oxlade-Chamberlain, but it is believed that O'Neill quickly became a big fan of the veteran player.

With the manager situation now solved, at least for one more season, it makes a lot of sense that the No.21 is next to have his future announced ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

There is the option to extend the player's contract by another year, but it doesn't seem like anything has yet been decided. That could quickly change.

Even his partner, Perrie Edwards, has spoken extremely positively about living in Scotland, indicating that the pair would be happy to stay at Celtic Park for another season.

Which other players' futures must be solved this summer?

Oxlade-Chamberlain is likely to be lower down on the list of fans' priority moves this summer, with multiple stars nearing the end of their contracts.

Daizen Maeda is normally strongly linked with a departure to the Premier League during transfer windows, and given that he's about to enter the final 12 months of his deal, he should be top of the list.

Kelechi Iheanacho is also an interesting one. He was signed on a season-long contract last summer, and fans have fallen completely in love with him.

Many are desperate for the Hoops to work out new terms with the centre-forward, and the same goes for full-back Marcelo Saracchi.

The 28-year-old has made an incredible impact at Celtic Park since joining on loan from Boca Juniors in August, and the majority of fans want to see him write across the dotted line again this summer.
