Celtic fans fume at Daizen Maeda after latest transfer demand - 'Who does he think he is?'
Celtic supporters have lashed out at Daizen Maeda online after some new quotes about his future at the club came to light.
Maeda's future at Celtic has been up in the air over the last few months, and he entered the final year of his contract last month.
The 28-year-old completed a remarkable turnaround in form on the final day of the last Premiership season in May as he fired the Hoops to another title.
He registered 17 goals and 10 assists in 54 appearances last term, with nine strikes in the last seven games of the campaign.
Maeda has made it very clear that he wants to join a Premier League club this summer, with several linked to his services in the last few weeks.
The majority of Celtic fans are content to see him leave for the right price, but he has continued to give interviews about his desire to leave Parkhead, with some supporters now unhappy about how he is handling the situation.
Celtic fans unhappy with Daizen Maeda's new 'make it lower' transfer demand
Maeda was set to join Wolfsburg last summer before a move fell through late in the transfer window.
All parties are keen to avoid a repeat this summer, with Martin O'Neill recently admitting that he will likely be powerless to stop him leaving.
The versatile striker, who bagged at the World Cup for Japan last month, recently spoke to the media in his home country about his feelings towards a move away.
When speaking about the fee that Celtic are asking for his services from interested clubs, he said: "Make it lower. If it goes down, it becomes easier to transfer. Don't raise it."
His comments drew anger from some Hoops fans, with one taking to X to say: "He's under contract. No one forced him to sign it, he did. He needs to shut his trap and remember how poor he was for 3/4 of last season."
While another added: "Who does he think he is? You're not bigger than the club."
And one supporter wrote: "Sorry Daizen, but you're not calling the shots here!"
What is the latest on interest in Maeda?
Sources have recently revealed to Football Insider that Fulham and Brentford have joined the race for Maeda, alongside the likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest.
Former Toffees executive Keith Wyness also told Football Insider earlier this month that Brentford were leading the race for Maeda, but now another candidate has entered the chase.
New reports over the last 24 hours have claimed that Ipswich Town have held talks to sign the 28-year-old, with the two clubs discussing the conditions of a possible offer.
Maeda is surely set to get his long-awaited PL move this summer, but Celtic will undoubtedly need to make sure that they get the correct fee for him to avoid more fan annoyance.
