Celtic now have to pay 10% more for Elijah Just sees after standout New Zealand display – verdict
Celtic should accelerate their move for Motherwell winger Elijah Just following his standout World Cup display.
Coming off the back of an impressive season in the Scottish Premiership with Motherwell, Just scored twice as New Zealand drew their opening match of the World Cup with Iran.
Just only moved to Motherwell last summer from Danish side AC Horsens, but the past 12 months have proved he is capable of taking another step forward in his career.
Celtic are facing a squad rebuild this summer and they are lining up a move for Just to bolster their attacking options.
The future of Daizen Maeda is uncertain, whilst question marks remain over whether Sebastian Tounekti can make a long-term impact in Glasgow.
With 34-year-old James Forrest still getting regular game time down the flanks, and with Jota currently injured, it is clear that Celtic need to sign a new winger this summer.
Elijah Just steals the show in New Zealand draw
New Zealand face a tough World Cup group, and the match against Iran gave the All Whites the best chance of picking up a point.
Aided by two assists by Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood, Just proved he is a pivotal player in this New Zealand side.
Opening the scoring in the seventh minute, Just linked up well with Wood and showed neat control before firing the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
Restoring New Zealand's lead in the second half, Just drove forward before playing a one-two with Wood and placing the ball beyond the goalkeeper.
Whilst Just impressed with his goals, the 26-year-old also won four ground duels, made seven recoveries and made eight progressive carries.
Sources told Football Insider that Just is a leading transfer target for Celtic, and this all-round display proves that the winger could be an excellent signing for Martin O'Neill's side.
When could Celtic complete a deal for Elijah Just?
Just's agent, Gustaf Grauers, has already spoken out about his client's future, and said that transfer discussions can wait until after the World Cup.
Rangers could rival Celtic for Just's signature, who has admitted that he wants to play at the highest level in his career.
New Zealand's World Cup campaign is expected to be over after the group stage concludes, meaning talks with Just over a move could happen from the start of July.
Motherwell are only set to sell Just if a sizeable fee of around £3million or more is received, which both Old Firm clubs are financially able to do.
