Celtic told ‘cheap offer’ for Elias Filet will be accepted – ‘They won’t stand in his way'
Celtic will not have to break the bank to get a deal for FC Aarau striker Elias Filet over the line in the coming weeks, sources have told Footbal Insider.
Filet has admirers at Parkhead after a successful season in Switzerland with second-tier side Aarau.
The 24-year-old bagged 20 goals in 35 Challenge League appearances as his club missed out on promotion in the play-offs.
Martin O’Neill wants to add a physically dominant striker to his ranks and Celtic chiefs believe Filet fits the bill.
They could accelerate a move soon, with Aarau set to demand a small fee considering their size and his contract situation, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast.
Filet is six feet and one inch tall, and won a whopping 210 aerial duels in 35 league games last season, while also drawing 60 fouls.
Recent reports have claimed that he is keen on a move to Parkhead, so the Hoops will feel confident about getting their first deal of the summer over the line.
Celtic handed Elias Filet boost as Aarau transfer demands revealed
O’Neill is aiming to bolster his attacking options before any other position as uncertainty looms over the futures of Daizen Maeda and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Filet, it would be a gamble to bring him in, but it would take a relatively cheap offer because he's only got one year left on his contract at the Swiss club.
“I'm sure they would not stand in his way if a decent offer comes in for him as well. He ticks the boxes for Celtic in that he is a dominant, physical player, and that is what Martin O’Neill is keen to bring in.”
Celtic want Barney Stewart signing as O’Neill plots striker overhaul
Filet is not the only centre-forward on the radar of the Hoops as O’Neill gets ready to make major changes to his attacking options.
Falkirk striker Stewart is a target for Celtic, as revealed by Football Insider, after his impressive breakthrough campaign under John McGlynn.
The 22-year-old notched 10 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions for Falkirk after returning from a loan at Dunfermline in January.
West Brom recently saw a £1million bid turned down for the Bairns starlet, so Celtic should know how much they need to offer to seal his signature this summer.
