Celtic’s latest Kieron Bowie move makes little sense amid striker uncertainty
Celtic could be making a baffling transfer decision amid renewed interest in Kieron Bowie.
According to L'Arena in Italy, via the Daily Record, Celtic have made "preliminary enquiries" to Hellas Verona over Bowie.
Hellas Verona's relegation from Serie A, means Bowie could return to Scotland just six months after he departed Hibernian in the January transfer window.
Celtic held interest in Bowie in January, but the Glasgow club did not make their move and match Hellas Verona's bid, worth around £6million, for the 23-year-old.
Such a figure was deemed too high for Celtic for a striker who had scored eight Scottish Premiership goals in 19 starts that season.
Hellas Verona are unlikely to sell for less than they paid to sign Bowie just months ago, meaning Celtic face paying a far higher fee now than they would have in January.
Celtic urged against Kieron Bowie move
Bowie has yet to make a meaningful impact in Italy, returning just four goals from 14 starts.
A move for Bowie, whose form failed to get him called up to Scotland's World Cup squad, hints of desperation from the club to sign a striker.
Celtic supporters want the club to be ambitious in the transfer market, with the aim of making an impact in Europe, and Bowie's arrival, if no other striker is signed, could increase frustrations among the fanbase.
Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh has been continually linked with a move to Celtic, yet the club have not gone and got a deal done for the 25-year-old, who has Champions League experience and a strong goal record in Norway.
That is the sort of signing Celtic fans demand, and sources told Football Insider that £10m could be enough to sign Hogh this summer.
Celtic face crucial transfer decision
Celtic have also been linked with FC Aarau striker Elias Filet, a 24-year-old who has no experience of playing in Europe's top five leagues.
With a strong transfer budget which could be boosted by player sales, Celtic certainly can't argue that they can not afford to sign Hogh over either Bowie or Filet.
With Kelechi Iheanacho having not yet signed a new contract at Celtic, Martin O'Neill currently has few options up-front to choose from.
It is pivotal that, with Rangers having signed Lawrence Shankland, Celtic sign a striker capable of firing them to another Scottish Premiership title.
