Celtic’s resolve will be tested as Arne Engels triggers potential bidding war - verdict
Celtic have an obvious transfer decision to make regarding Arne Engels as a bidding war could start for the midfielder.
According to Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas, Nottingham Forest are set to revive their interest in Engels this summer, and face competition from Sunderland and Fulham.
Nottingham Forest made three bids for Engels during the January transfer window, including a £25million offer which Celtic rejected.
Celtic were right not to let one of their star players leave on deadline day in the midst of a title fight, but the Glasgow club surely would not be able to reject such an offer now.
The Hoops' current record sale was when Brighton paid £25m to sign Matt O'Riley in 2024, and Engels could surpass that.
Having joined Celtic for £11m from Augsburg, Celtic would be making a healthy profit on the 22-year-old.
Arne Engels could fill Nottingham Forest hole in midfield
Nottingham Forest are set to be in a stronger position to sign Engels than they were in January.
It is expected that Elliot Anderson will leave the City Ground, and Manchester City could pay over £80m to secure the England international's signature.
Alongside Sunderland, who will be competing in the Europa League next season, and Fulham, who may need to replace Harry Wilson, a bidding war can not be ruled out between the three clubs for Engels.
The Belgian looks destined to play in the Premier League one day, having become one of the top players in the Scottish Premiership, and Celtic should seriously consider a sale this summer.
Celtic warned about new managerial appointment
Engels is not be expected to be the only player who could leave Celtic this summer.
Celtic's squad is set to be rebuilt, and the club have confirmed that Martin O'Neill will be the permanent manager in place to oversee the changes.
However, speaking to Football Insider, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Celtic have "major problems" sticking with O'Neill for another season.
O'Neill though is sure to have demanded backing in the transfer market in return for staying in his role, and the 74-year-old will have plenty of big decisions to make this summer.
