Celtic have reportedly offered around £3.5million for Real Oviedo and Egypt winger Haissem Hassan this summer.

Martin O'Neill is aiming to bolster his attacking options this summer as some major changes are made to his squad.

Hassan has emerged onto the Hoops' radar while winning plaudits for his impressive performance against Argentina in the World Cup.

The Egypt star nearly fired his country to the World Cup quarter-finals with a stunning showing on Tuesday before Argentina came from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

According to reports in Spain, Celtic have seen a bid for his services worth just £3.5m rejected by Oviedo in the last 24 hours, with his release clause believed to be set at £10m.

Hassan would certainly be an exciting addition to Celtic's ranks if he were to join, primarily based on his World Cup exploits.

Many Hoops fans may not know much about their latest forward target, however, considering his relatively low-key career so far.

Who is Haissem Hassan?

Hassan is currently 24-years-old and, despite representing Egypt at international level, he was born in Paris.

He was part of Paris FC's academy before joining Chateauroux in 2017 and signing his first professional contract in June 2018 at the age of 16.

The right winger made his senior debut later that year and played 17 times for the club before joining Villarreal's B team in 2020.

He was a regular in their reserve side and also enjoyed a loan spell at Spanish second tier club Mirandes, before going on to play twice for Villarreal's first-team in 2022-23.

Another move to Sporting Gijon followed before he joined Real Oviedo in 2024, where he has registered four goals and six assists in 82 appearances so far.

His output may be lacking, but Hassan's biggest weapons are his strong dribbling and acceleration qualities.

While he now has six Egypt caps since debuting in March 2026, Hassan was also a France youth international and was part of their under-17 side that finished third at the 2019 U-17 World Cup.

Martin O'Neill to sanction Daizen Maeda transfer as Celtic deal with year-long issue

What did Ally McCoist say about Hassan live on air?

Sources have told Football Insider that Daizen Maeda will leave Celtic soon, as O'Neill wants him sold so that he can reinvest the funds garnered back into his squad.

Hassan may well be a top target for that money to go towards, and Celtic fans will be pleased to know that Rangers legend McCoist has waxed lyrical about the 24-year-old already.

After he had set Mostafa Zico up fantastically to make it 2-0 to Egypt against Argentina on Tuesday, McCoist could not hide his praise for Hassan while co-commentating on ITV.

He said: "The finish is magnificent (from Zico), but I cannot believe the talent [Hassan] we have seen on the right hand touchline. Haissem Hassan, my goodness me. He gets it 10-15 yards inside his own half, I cannot wait to see it again."
