Celtic’s board are risking more fan outrage after Luis Palma was permanently sold to Lech Poznan following his loan spell away from Parkhead.

Palma impressed out on loan at Poznan throughout 2025-26 after being told that he was surplus to requirements under Brendan Rodgers last summer.

The Honduran winger fired the Polish side to their first back-to-back Ekstraklasa triumph since 1992 with 16 goal contributions in 31 league matches.

His future has been widely debated ahead of the summer window, but Poznan have now put all rumours to bed by exercising their buy clause in his original loan deal.

Palma could soon make Celtic’s board regret selling him by continuing to impress away from Parkhead.

Celtic’s chiefs may live to regret agreeing to buy clause as Luis Palma departs

Despite leaving on loan, Palma made it abundantly clear that he would welcome another chance at Parkhead when speaking to Honduran media in April.

He said: “I had a great time at Celtic, I really enjoyed it. I’d like a second chance. I’m still under contract with them, I’m still part of the club, and if they say I need to come back, I’ll do my very best.

“My dream is to return to a top-flight league. For me, the Scottish league was a top-flight league. I got to play in the Champions League, which is what every player wants to do – that dream hasn’t died yet.”

He massively impressed at Poznan and was attracting attention from Spanish giants Sevilla ahead of the summer window.

Despite uncertainty around his future, the Polish side officially confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that they have signed Palma permanently for around £3.5million.

While the transfer fee is respectable for Celtic, as they recoup almost exactly what they paid for the 26-year-old, letting him leave could well come back to bite their owners.

Palma did show flashes of brilliance in his time playing for the Hoops and they arguably missed someone with his pace and trickery for large parts of last season.

The buy clause was also agreed last summer when his stocks were low, and they could easily have received more for the winger had it not existed and they were simply selling to the highest bidder this summer.

Celtic fans have already voiced their grievances at the lack of transfer business from their board in recent windows, and so if they do head into next season lacking attacking firepower, Palma’s exit will surely haunt them.

Fares Ghedjemis arrival could help fix damaged reputation of Celtic chiefs

Celtic’s board will have to reinvest the money garnered from Palma’s sale to prove to their supporters that they are committed to improving the squad.

Sources recently revealed to Football Insider that Celtic are interested in Ghedjemis after his impressive campaign with Serie B club Frosinone.

The Algerian winger registered 15 goals and three assists in 37 league games for the Italian side throughout 2025-26.

Recent reports have claimed that they are open to selling him for the right price this summer, despite winning promotion to Serie A.

Dermot Desmond and co can prove that they have changed in the transfer market by using some of the funds from Palma’s sale towards signing Ghedjemis this summer.
