Celtic supporters have not held back their criticism of Haissem Hassan’s display after their 3-1 defeat against Ferencvaros in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Hoops were well beaten in their first match of the league stage, with the Hungarian side taking all three points at Celtic Park.

Few Celtic players can hold their heads high after that performance, with numerous stars being horrific on the night.

However, perhaps no one was worse than Hassan, who struggled to do anything of note before he was hauled off the pitch just before the hour mark.

Now, many supporters have criticised the £9million summer signing’s work rate, with many labelling him as “lazy”.

Hassan was one of Celtic’s key buys in the summer transfer window, but has done little to justify his price tag to date.

Hassan’s move to Celtic came with a lot of pessimism in the summer.

Despite a good 2026 World Cup, he did little at Real Oviedo last season before they were relegated to La Liga 2.

Now, after eight games in a Celtic jersey, the winger is yet to score a single goal and has only picked up one assist in all competitions.

Martin O’Neill needed players to step up on Thursday after the defeat to Rangers on the weekend, and Hassan not only failed to do this, but was simply awful throughout.

As a result, Celtic supporters are furious, and it did not take long for them to run to X to criticise the winger.

How bad was Hassan vs Ferencvaros?

When examining his stats on Fotmob on 18 September, Hassan really did not have a good game on Thursday.

Overall, he completed 87 per cent of his passes, created one chance, had a 0.06 xA, completed two out of five attempted crosses, was dispossessed once, made one defensive contribution and lost both of his ground duels.

As a result, it is of little surprise that supporters were furious with his display in the Europa League.

However, it remains to be seen what impact this will have on O’Neill’s team selection going forward and if Hassan is capable of bouncing back from this display.
