Celtic 'internal excitement' revealed as Martin O'Neill hints at new tactical plan

Celtic are now on the verge of sealing the signing of Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh for £11million.

The Danish frontman has been on the Bhoys' radar as a top target for several transfer windows, and they are finally about to get their man.

The 25-year-old has been prolific in front of goal in recent years, netting 25 in all competitions last term, and he already has seven strikes from just 12 Eliteserien games in 2026.

Hogh is set to arrive as Celtic's headline addition of the summer, but there is already huge optimism surrounding their first summer signing Camilo Duran.

The Colombian joined for a much more modest fee from Qarabag, but already has three goals from three games for his new club in pre-season.

Duran's finishing prowess has already raised eyebrows at Parkhead, but Martin O'Neill may have a plan up his sleeve as to how he gets the best out of both him and Hogh.

O'Neill typically operates with either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 setup, meaning that there is not necessarily room in the squad for several top strikers competing against each other.

Hogh's imminent arrival may already force Duran down the pecking order for the Hoops, but O'Neill has not ruled out a switch to a formation that allows him to utilise both of his new attacking stars.

The veteran boss recently told The Herald that he sees "no reason" why the pair cannot operate alongside each other in a strike partnership.

That hint at the possibility of a fresh tactical plan will aim to get the best out of both new additions, with Duran already making a name for himself.

The Herald have reported that there is huge "internal excitement" behind the scenes at the start that the 24-year-old has made, and the club have high hopes for him in the coming years.

If Duran can keep firing at the start of the season, then he could push Hogh hard for a starting spot, leaving O'Neill with some difficult decisions to make.

Celtic board planning 'sacrifice'

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider last week that Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson is in "real trouble" amid sustained discontent from fans.

The Bhoys' CEO recently blamed a lack of transfer activity on agents fees, something which Wyness believes cannot be used an "excuse" for the lack of business.

The Scottish businessman suggested that the board may decide to "sacrifice" Nicholson in order to appease the fans, and remove some of the pressure that has been building upon them of late.

Celtic Park has not been a happy place across the last 12 months, and Wyness expects the club hierarchy to try to restore some level of harmony.
