Sources: Celtic have Viljami Sinisalo 'concerns'

Celtic still have long-lasting "concerns" about Viljami Sinisalo's ability to be their number one goalkeeper, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bhoys worked hard to replace the Finland international in the summer, and still have doubts regarding his ability long-term.

However, Martin O'Neill recently opted to reinstate the 24-year-old as the starter between the posts, after his replacement Sam Johnstone, turned in a shaky display in the Premier Sports Cup defeat to Rangers.

Sources say that Celtic are desperate to find "continuity" in that position, and do not want to keep rotating between the two throughout the campaign.

However, there is a feeling that neither have hit the necessary level of performance so far this term, leaving O'Neill and Co. in a difficult situation.

Sinisalo seemingly has the edge in the battle at the moment, but his position is far from secure right now.

A damaging few weeks have left every member of the Celtic squad and coaching staff under major scrutiny, and it has been no different for Sinisalo.

The former Exeter City man returned to the starting XI after Johnstone's struggle against Rangers, but his return simply hasn't prompted the desired turnaround.

Sinisalo conceded three times against Ferencvaros in the Europa League defeat, before a poor rebound allowed Ryan Naderi to net the winner for Rangers in league action last weekend.

The youngster's stats in the early stages of the Scottish Premiership season make for good reading, with a save percentage of 84 per cent, and a positive goals-prevented total.

However, like several members of the squad, the concerns lie in his ability when it comes to the big games against top opposition.

Celtic players suffering 'psychological damage'

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Celtic's squad have been dealt significant "psychological damage" by their recent defeats.

The Glasgow giants have been hit by back-to-back defeats to Rangers in domestic action, sandwiched either side of defeat in their opening Europa League clash.

Sources say that O'Neill's men have had their confidence badly damaged by the defeats, which have quickly ended their positive start to the campaign.

The boss' future is now under major scrutiny, and there is a genuine chance that he may have managed his final game for Celtic.
