'That's embarrassing' - Celtic fans erupt at Luke McCowan as 'shameful' details emerge
Luke McCowan has been slammed by Celtic fans for his terrible performance in Celtic’s shock 5-4 aggregate defeat to LASK on Tuesday.
The Hoops suffered one of their worst defeats in history as the Austrian side made a comeback from 4-0 down to win the Champions League playoff tie as they picked up a 5-1 victory on the night.
It was simply an awful performance from Celtic, who completely bottled their lead, despite blowing LASK away at Celtic Park last week.
Martin O’Neill and the board will take a big portion of the blame for the defeat, with the Old Firm club now cast out into the Europa League’s league stage.
However, McCowan’s performance from the bench also played a key role in the defeat, with the midfielder having a nightmare cameo.
As a result, many Celtic fans have taken to social media to blast the 28-year-old’s display, in what was perhaps his worst-ever match in a Celtic shirt.

On Tuesday, McCowan was brought off the bench in the 71st minute, with the tie’s scoreline at 3-4 in Celtic’s favour.
It was hoped that the midfielder’s introduction would help see out the remaining minutes and ensure their progression into the next round.
However, instead, McCowan would make the mistake that cost the club the tie, as he lost the ball on the edge of his own box, which allowed Samuel Adeniran to slam home the winner.
The error topped off what was an awful cameo from the 28-year-old, and Celtic fans were quick to take to X to call for the midfielder to never play for the club again.
How bad was McCowan vs LASK?
According to Fotmob on 26 August, McCowan’s performance against LASK was simply dreadful.
Overall, he completed just 59 per cent of his passes, created two chances, made one error that led to a goal, was dispossessed six times, won zero out of two aerial duels, won four out of 11 ground duels and committed one foul.
It was clearly a dreadful display, with McCowan being one of many Celtic players to let the club down on Tuesday.
However, it remains to be seen if McCowan is able to bounce back from this display, or if the performance will now keep him out of the team for the foreseeable future.
