Celtic are increasingly likely to give Martin O’Neill the job on a permanent basis.

Currently, the 74-year-old is contracted to stay at the club until the end of the season, where he is hoping to lift a domestic double.

While it is assumed that the manager will leave the Hoops at the end of the season, it has yet to be officially ruled out.

Now, one bookmaker has placed O’Neill at 12/1 to remain at the club for the 2026-27 campaign, with Oddschecker on 9 April confirming that these odds have been slashed.

O’Neill currently has his side third in the Scottish Premiership, three points behind Heart of Midlothian at the summit as he continues to showcase his managerial skills at Celtic.

Would appointing Martin O’Neill be a step backwards for Celtic?

As it stands, Celtic are in a strong position to win both the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.

If this is pulled off, it would be a massive achievement for O’Neill, considering how bad the club’s form was upon Wilfried Nancy’s sacking.

However, this does not necessarily mean that the Northern Irishman should be given the job full-time.

There have been plenty of signs that suggest that O’Neill should leave at the end of his contract in the summer.

Many of his results have been poor, including defeats to Hibernian and Dundee United.

On top of this, his winter window signings have not been too impressive, although he was restricted to loans and free transfers.

Even if he were to be appointed, his age would potentially mean that he would not be in the dugout for too long, meaning that Celtic would have to start the process all over again.

Who else is linked with the Celtic job?

Former Aberdeen chief Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider that Robbie Keane could be brought in by Celtic to help win some of the fanbase back.

The former Hoops star has been linked to the job since January, and is now the favourite to take over at 13/8.

Jens Berthel Askou also remains in the running at 3/1 as he continues to impress in charge of Motherwell.

Roberto Martinez and Craig Bellamy are yet to be ruled out, with the duo at 8/1 and 7/1 odds.

However, it remains to be seen who Celtic opt to appoint in the coming months.
