'It would be great news for Celtic' - Everton expert shares David Moyes verdict
Celtic could potentially repair their ever-worsening relationship with their fanbase by moving to appoint David Moyes as their next manager.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that getting the Toffees boss through the door next summer could get the Bhoys faithful back onside.
Moyes has been heavily linked with the Celtic job of late, with both him and current boss Martin O'Neill out of contract at the end of the season.
However, Wyness is adamant that Moyes will not agree to join Celtic before the end of his job on Merseyside, unless there is a fairly drastic twist of events.
Everton are now officially up for sale, with The Friedkin Group hoping to offload the club before the end of the campaign, which has cast further doubt on Moyes' future.
However, Wyness has worked with the 63-year-old before, and does not expect him to entertain any idea of moving to Celtic until after the season is done.
'Big disruption' could trigger David Moyes switch
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Moyes won't allow his hand to be turned unless there is a "big disruption" at Everton in the coming months.
The change of ownership could potentially open the door for Celtic to move in towards the end of the campaign, but the new owners may equally be keen to give Moyes a chance.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained why it will be tricky for Celtic to get an agreement in place with Moyes.
"I think Moyes has got a long time left still in the Premier League, and I don't think Celtic's necessarily the right career move for him, but I don't think he'll be thinking of jumping at all," he said.
"From Celtic's point of view, if they were to line David up, then that would be great news for them and for the board.
"That would be something the fans would receive pretty well, and if they were to say that yes, Martin's going to carry on through the rest of the season but David Moyes is coming in, that would be great for them, but I don't think they can achieve that.
"I don't think there's any way Moyes will agree to go by the end of the season unless there is a big disruption between now and then with either the Friedkins or he doesn't like the new owners coming in, and I don't think either of those things will happen.
"I think any new group coming in would do well to stay with David for a couple of seasons, back him and see where it went after that. So I don't see it being a real link other than a media link at the moment."
Anthony Ralston victim of 'dysfunctional' setup
Wyness recently told Football Insider that Celtic right-back Anthony Ralston has fallen victim to the "dysfunctional" setup at the club at the moment.
The 27-year-old made 35 appearances for the Glasgow giants in all competitions last term, but is still waiting for his first involvement in the Scottish Premiership in 2026-27.
Wyness believes that Ralston still has plenty to give at his boyhood club, and does not deserve to be forced onto the fringes of the squad.
The Scotland international is out of contract next summer, and his chances of securing an extension to that deal appear pretty slim at the moment.
