Keith Wyness shares update on Roy Keane's chances of becoming nwew Celtic manager

Roy Keane is not the sort of manager that Celtic need to replace Martin O'Neill at the moment.

That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the former midfielder should be "discounted" as an option by the Bhoys.

This comes following the news that O'Neill is considering his future as boss, and could potentially step down from his role in the coming weeks.

Keane has been heavily linked with the job, but Wyness believes that his ability to "galvanise" a squad is not what Celtic need right now.

He wants to see the next boss be someone with a much more methodical approach, whether they ultimately replace O'Neill soon or at the end of his contract next summer.

Keane has previously worked as O'Neill's assistant with both Nottingham Forest and the Republic of Ireland, but has now been away from direct management for the last 15 years.

Roy Keane not the 'right solution' for Celtic

Aberdeen's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs - believes that Celtic need a boss who will transform their summer business.

The Scottish businessman views Keane as a manager whose main strength is in the motivational department, but he does not believe that would help Celtic right now.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness was in no doubt that Keane shouldn't be considered for the role.

"It was 2011 when I checked that the last time he was a manager. That's a long time ago, 15 years, I'm afraid," he said.

"I don't think Roy Keane is the right solution for Celtic right now. They're looking for somebody to really get behind the scenes and make that machine that gets that recruitment right and then sells at higher prices, and also gets things right in June, July and gets this squad ready for European competitions.

"I don't see Roy having the right tools to do that. Look, he's obviously got some skills in terms of a manager that can galvanise a squad.

"We understand that, but that's not the role I see that's needed at Celtic right now. So I would discount Roy as a possible option."

Celtic to miss out on 'ideal' Martin O'Neill replacement - 'They don't want to pay'

Celtic won't fork out for 'ideal' Martin O'Neill replacement

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that Celtic are likely to miss out on Kieran McKenna as a potential replacement for O'Neill.

The ex-recruitment man views the former Ipswich boss as the "ideal" option for the Bhoys, especially considering he is currently out of work.

However, Celtic would need to pay Ipswich £8million to appoint their former boss, and Brown is extremely doubtful that they would be willing to pay that sum.

With that in mind, he expects them to miss out on McKenna, who is ultimately likely to head elsewhere when he returns to the dugout.
