Wilfried Nancy is yet to return to the dugout since his awful spell at Celtic earlier this season.

The manager only managed to win two out of his eight matches, which almost lost the Hoops the league title until Martin O’Neill came in to save the day.

As a result, the 49-year-old has struggled to find a subsequent managerial post, as he looks to put his terrible Celtic reign behind him.

Now, this could change, with it being reported on 4 June that Lorient are interested in Nancy this summer.

The Ligue 1 club finished 10th in the division this season, and are hopeful that the former Celtic boss can take them to the next level.

Wilfried Nancy could finally put Celtic failures behind him

There is no question that Nancy’s reign at Celtic has plagued his managerial career for months.

The 49-year-old was highly rated at Columbus Crew before his move to Scotland, with the Frenchman being praised for his work in the MLS.

Yet, an eight-game spell has seemingly ruined his reputation, despite Nancy and Celtic being unlucky in a few of his defeats.

A move to Lorient would no doubt help Nancy put his Celtic past behind him and give him a chance to impress in one of the best leagues in the world.

However, it remains to be seen if he is able to find success at Lorient if he gets the job, or if he will continue to struggle in Europe.

How much money did Nancy get for Celtic sack?

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Nancy could have received as much as £2million in compensation for his sacking at Celtic.

This is despite the manager only being in charge of the Hoops for 33 days as they endured an awful run of defeats between December and January.

Borson also suggested there may well have been a liquidated damages clause included in Nancy’s contract when he signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Parkhead.

For Celtic, the sacking worked out for the better, with O’Neill quickly coming back to the club to lead them to a memorable domestic double right at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
