Cameron Carter-Vickers could be tempted to leave Celtic in pursuit of a move to the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old has long been linked with a move away from Celtic, whom he joined from Tottenham in 2022, but has never actively pursued a move as he remains happy in Glasgow.

Martin O'Neill's views the USA international as an important part of his ambitious plans at Parkhead, where he is set to play a key role in any success this team enjoys.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Carter-Vickers could be tempted by offers from Premier League clubs should they arrive.

This comes after former USA international Brek Shea suggested the centre-back could join a "bigger club" as he backed him to make a step up away from Celtic in the future.

Carter-Vickers is believed to have always been keen on a return to the Premier League, and while a January exit will be ruled out, he could explore a move away next summer.

Could Cameron Carter-Vickers move to the Premier League?

Carter-Vickers has long been linked with a return to the Premier League, after Football Insider reported last year that Everton are among his admirers south of the border.

While there is no pathway for the centre-back to join a Premier League club as things stand, with no clubs having expressed an interest, his potential availability could tempt them.

Carter-Vickers, meanwhile, would consider a move to the Premier League if he was approached and could finally be tempted to leave Celtic in next summer's transfer window.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "There's been talk about Carter-Vickers leaving Celtic for a while now.

"Obviously he has done very well during his time at Celtic and he has become a key man in that defence under Martin O'Neill.

"But he turns 29 in December, Carter-Vickers, and I'm sure at some point he will look to move down to the Premier League because he has continued to be linked there.

"I don't see anything happening in January, he's still got a key role to play for Martin O'Neill's side and will be important for them this season.

"He's under contract at Celtic until 2029, so I don't think Celtic would be willing to weaken their squad by letting Carter-Vickers leave midway through the season."

What do Celtic have planned for the January window?

Despite having no plans to allow Carter-Vickers to leave in the January transfer window, questions have been asked about what Celtic's mid-season plans entail.

Keeping hold of their best players is likely to be an important aspect of their window, but the squad is still in need of improvements in key areas given their lack of depth.

However, despite ongoing protests from the fans, Football Insider revealed on 18 October that Celtic are not planning for a busy January transfer window.

While O'Neill may be backed if there are major concerns about his squad, the board are not keen to deviate from their current pragmatic approach to the window.

Despite large sections of the supporters speaking out about the board's decision making, particularly with regard to their transfer plans, the club remain unfazed.
