Sources: Celtic make contact over Kasper Hogh deal
Celtic have made contact with Bodo/Glimt about their striker Kasper Hogh, sources have told Football Insider.
Martin O'Neill is looking to add some real quality to his centre-forward ranks this summer.
Daizen Maeda fired Celtic to the Premiership title last season as their main striker, but is pushing to leave the club soon as Ipswich Town make a move for his services.
The Hoops have already added Colombian frontman Camilo Duran to their squad in this window, but another signing is needed after Kelechi Iheanacho's departure.
Bodo/Glimt striker Hogh was a target for Celtic in the January window, but he decided to stay in Norway so all parties could better assess his future in the summer.
The Hoops are back in for Hogh ahead of the new season, and have registered their interest in him.
How has Kasper Hogh fared in the Champions League?
Hogh made his Champions League debut in the 2024-25 second qualifying round, as he bagged against RFS and also later on against Jagiellonia before Bodo went out at the final stage.
He later scored seven goals in 14 Europa League games for the Norwegian side that same season, so should impress in that competition if the Hoops fail to make the UCL league stage.
Bodo made it through the qualifying rounds last term, as Hogh scored in their play-off first-leg win against Sturm Graz.
The 25-year-old soon catapulted himself to world fame during Bodo's shock run to the last 16, with five goals and three assists in 12 appearances.
He netted an iconic brace against Man City in January, then followed that up with three further strikes in wins against Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.
Hogh scored the third goal in their 3-0 last 16 first-leg win against Sporting in March, but the dream was soon over as they were thrashed 5-0 in the second leg.
Sources previously revealed to Football Insider that Bodo were set to demand around £10million for Hogh, and new reports have claimed that they will definitely want in excess of £7m to part ways this summer.
What have Bodo said about selling Hogh?
Celtic return to Champions League action in the third week of next month, and will find out who they are set to face in the play-offs on 3 August.
They want to get a deal over the line for Hogh before those hugely important matches, while the new Premiership campaign also starts in early August.
Bodo are not set to part ways with their star man too easily, though, with managing director Frode Thomassen recently insisting that they do not need to be pressured into a sale.
He said: "We don’t have to sell anyone but if the offer is good and the player would like to go of course we will judge it and see. I think Kasper enjoys playing in Bodo but we will see.
“There are two big ways in football to earn money. One of them is performance on the pitch and one is to sell players. For us it has been important to focus on the performance part and having a strong team. Our main goal has not been to develop players to sell them. At the moment we are a good team.
“From the outside, people see the players when they play. Kasper was the top scorer in the Europa League when we made a semi-final last spring but he is a really good footballer and a really good striker.
“But as a person he is quite special. A good team mate who carries good values and he is one of the players – when the culture is very important for the club you want the right people on the pitch and in the staff – it is essential, and Kasper is a leading star for that.”
