Sources: Celtic turn attention to Radek Vitek deal amid Man United decision
Celtic are interested in making a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old has two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and is expected to be sold this summer after impressing on loan at Bristol City.
Senne Lammens is Michael Carrick's number one, with Karl Darlow also set to arrive on a free transfer to bolster the goalkeeping options.
Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Celtic are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer following Kasper Schmeichel's retirement.
Viljami Sinisalo ended the season in net for the Scottish champions, but may be replaced if a more capable replacement can be found.
Celtic will likely face competition in the race for Vitek, with newly-promoted Premier League side Hull City among the clubs linked with a potential move.
Why is Radek Vitek attracting interest?
Vitek arrived at the Man United academy in 2020, after he had been plucked from Czech side Olomouc.
Since 2024, he has been on loans with Accrington Stanley and Blau Weiss Linz, although Bristol was where he truly found his feet.
The 22-year-old started 41 games in the Championship and his superb form was recognised at the end of the season when he won player of the year, players' player of the year and young player of the year award for the Robins.
The Czechia youth international kept 12 Championship clean sheets and made 134 saves in the season, keeping a 71.3 per cent save percentage.
Vitek prevented 5.4 goals over the course of the campaign, a number only bettered by three other shot-stoppers.
While he did make three errors leading to goals, he more than made up for it by almost single-handedly earning Bristol points on several occasions.
What Petr Cech said about Vitek
As a young Czech goalkeeper, Vitek has an obvious idol to look up to in the form of legendary shot-stopper Petr Cech.
The former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper won four golden gloves and kept 202 clean sheets in the Premier League - at least 30 more than anyone else.
Speaking about Vitek in May, Cech said: "It's great to see him progress because playing for the Under-21s with United is one thing, but then he played men's football in Austria, which went really well for him, then he came back to England with Bristol City and did well there.
"That obviously gives him an opportunity to attract even attention from teams in the Premier League.
"I met him a couple of years ago, when we had a training session and talked about things. I could see he's got the hunger and the willingness to get better."
