Three Celtic players who likely want Martin O'Neill to leave Parkhead

Celtic are weighing up Martin O'Neill's future and three players in particular could likely want him out of the club as soon as possible.

O'Neill's future at Parkhead has been plunged into doubt following a turbulent week for the club on the pitch.

Two defeats to rivals Rangers with an aggregate score of 4-0, either side of a Europa League defeat to Ferencvaros, have seen many Celtic fans turn on their legendary boss.

CEO Michael Nicholson revealed in an official statement on Tuesday that the Hoops' board is standing by O'Neill, but rumours have arisen of him potentially walking away from the club.

Kasper Hogh, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jordan Lotomba will surely each be secretly willing the 74-year-old to move on before their next game.

O'Neill is failing to get the best out of several key Celtic players, with some struggling to make an impact because they have not been handed ample minutes by the under-fire manager.

Hogh, 25, was Celtic's marquee summer signing as their long pursuit of his services ended with him arriving from Bodo/Glimt for around £11million.

The Danish striker bagged 53 goals in 102 appearances in his two-and-a-half years at Bodo, and looked to have found his feet at Celtic almost immediately with a hat-trick in his second outing for the club.

He has struggled to build on that star turn against Kilmarnock, and failed to even start in the Hoops' previous two games, so will surely be keen to see new some ideas implemented at Parkhead soon.

O'Neill took a chance on former Liverpool star Oxlade-Chamberlain in February after he had been a free agent for six months.

The 33-year-old impressed last season as they won the Premiership and has played well in his three starts so far this term, but is clearly not trusted by the boss.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has only featured four times so far this season, despite some strong performances that have seen him win 88.9 per cent of his attempted duels, create 1.28 big chances per 90 and boast a 90.4 per cent successful pass rate.

He certainly deserves more game time and could be given a better chance by a different manager, and the same can be said for summer signing Lotomba.

The 27-year-old is a full Switzerland international and has featured in several different top European leagues across his career so far, as well as all three top European club competitions.

O'Neill, once again, seems reluctant to utilise his talents from right-back, with 20-year-old Colby Donovan preferred to him from the off in each of the last five Celtic games.

Lotomba has only been handed 10 minutes of game time since his arrival, despite playing out a full pre-season with Feyenoord, and would surely be given more time to impress under a new manager.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Celtic's players are suffering from psychological damage after their poor run of results in the last 10 days.

It looks as if the onus is on O'Neill to walk away from Parkhead after Nicholson's surprising statement was released on Tuesday.

The Parkhead CEO included a segment about backing the 74-year-old while revealing their latest accounts, saying: "We owe a debt of gratitude to Martin O’Neill and his management team, who stepped up for Celtic, twice, and who guided the team to success. We were therefore delighted that Martin agreed to lead the club again this season and we have worked with Martin and his team over the summer transfer window to invest in the squad.

"Having started well in the Premiership this season, we experienced disappointment in the Uefa Champions League play-off. Reaching the league phase of the Champions League is an objective for us all, and we are sorry not to have achieved it. On top of that, the losses in the last week have been painful for us all.

"We will now come together and support Martin and the players, as we focus our efforts on achieving success domestically and in the Europa League.”
