Celtic fans can't believe what Daizen Maeda has just said as exit update drops

Daizen Maeda has urged Celtic to drop their asking price this transfer window amid Ipswich Town’s interest.

The Tractor Boys have reportedly launched a move for the 28-year-old, and are targeting a quick deal.

Celtic are happy to let the Japan international go this summer after he entered the final year of his contract.

The Hoops reportedly value the attacker between £14.6million and £19.7m as they look to land a significant fee for their star man.

However, when asked about the club’s asking price, Maeda made the point that if it is reduced, it may be easier for him to move away.

The attacker has made it clear in recent weeks that it is his dream to move to the Premier League, as he edges closer to this becoming a reality.

It now appears inevitable that Maeda will be off this summer.

Now that the World Cup is over, transfer activity across Europe is likely to skyrocket, with Ipswich Town already launching a move for the attacker, according to The Daily Record.

However, this does not mean that Celtic will let their star man go on the cheap, as they look to do what’s in the club’s interest.

Therefore, when the attacker went on Japanese TV show PUSH Sports and joked about the Hoops lowering their asking price, it did not go down well.

He said: “Make it lower. If it goes down, it becomes easier to transfer. Don’t raise it.” 

When these quotes hit social media, Celtic fans were furious and were quick to take to X to complain about the comment.

Who could Celtic bring in as a replacement?

The Scottish Sun has recently reported that Celtic are set to reignite their interest in Kasper Hogh this summer transfer window.

The Bodo/Glimt striker was heavily linked to the Hoops in early 2026, after a fantastic season in the Champions League.

Around £7m is believed to be enough to get a deal done for the attacker as Martin O’Neill seeks quality reinforcements up top this summer.

However, it remains to be seen if the club can get a deal over the line for Hogh, as Celtic look to build a squad capable of winning the Scottish Premiership title once again this season.
