Celtic fans taken aback by Miguel Chaiwa update as Hibernian price tag reported
Celtic fans were shocked to find out that Hibernian value their maestro Miguel Chaiwa at around £7million this summer transfer window.
The Hoops have been credited with interest for the 22-year-old midfielder for months after an impressive first season at Easter Road.
Celtic are expected to overhaul their midfield this summer, with numerous big names linked away from Parkhead, including Arne Engels and Benjamin Nygren.
However, if they want to bring in Chaiwa, reports have indicated that Hibs want around £7m for the midfielder, believing that the sale of Kieron Bowie to Hellas Verona in the winter window set a precedent.
Chaiwa helped Hibs qualify for Europe in the 2025-26 campaign as the club finished fifth in the Scottish Premiership.
Overall, he made 28 appearances in the Scottish top-flight, and he netted one goal.
Celtic fans baffled by Miguel Chaiwa price tag
Chaiwa would no doubt be a great signing for Celtic if they can get it over the line.
The midfielder has shown that he has excellent defensive capabilities and could help clog the Hoops’ leaky backline.
However, after the Edinburgh Evening News reported that Hibs want around £7m for their star, many Celtic fans were simply baffled.
As a result, many took to X, claiming that Chaiwa is only worth around half that price as the transfer saga heats up.
Who else are Celtic tracking this summer transfer window?
Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness has exclusively told Football Insider that he believes that Celtic will seal the signing of Astana midfielder Ivan Basic upon the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
Wyness believes that Martin O’Neill is a huge fan of the 24-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He is out of contract in Kazakhstan at the end of December, which could allow the Hoops to secure a deal for a price-cut fee in the transfer window.
It remains to be seen if Hibs’ price tag on Chaiwa will accelerate a potential deal for Basic this summer, especially as the club have been tracking the 24-year-old for some time.
However, one thing is clear, Celtic want another midfielder, with the club possessing multiple targets that they could capture over the next couple of months.
