Celtic in talks for 'deadly weapon' Elias Filet as transfer race on the cards
Celtic have met with the representatives of FC Aarau striker Elias Filet with a view to striking a deal for him this summer.
The Bhoys staged a "video conference" with the 24-year-old's agent on 9 June, according to Sacha Tavolieri, and they are working to agree personal terms with the frontman.
The Glasgow giants are "accelerating" their pursuit of the Frenchman, who netted 20 goals in the Swiss second tier this term.
Celtic are also planning to start official negotiations with Aarau as soon as possible, but face competition from Belgian side Genk and French outfit Lorient.
Filet is a man in demand after his electric season, as he helped Aarau into the promotion play-off over in Switzerland.
However, they were denied promotion to the top flight by Grasshopper over two legs, and their star striker now looks set to depart ahead of next term.
Elias Filet's strange route to Celtic link
Filet's career path has been a fairly strange one so far, as his time in the game has already taken him to some of European football's more obscure outposts.
He began as part of the Sochaux academy setup back in 2021, before stints with Progres Niederkorn in Luxembourg, Istra in Croatia and now Aarau.
His debut campaign at senior level saw him hit 13 goals in 24 games for Sochaux's B team in the French third tier, a return that won him plenty of admirers.
Filet was labelled as a "deadly weapon" by French outlet L'Est Republicain back in 2022, a moniker that highlights his prowess in front of goal.
That has been evident again at a stronger level with Aarau this term, and a transfer race is now set to form in the coming days.
Genk are currently in "pole position" to secure his signature and have an offer on the table, according to Tavolieri for Sky Sports Switzerland, but the door could still open for the Bhoys.
They are working to convince the player first before moving on to the club, and have the added carrot of Champions League football to dangle.
Celtic fans ready to 'pounce' on board
Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Celtic fans are ready to "pounce" on the board the second anything goes wrong next season.
Tenions were heightened between the two parties throughout the 2025-26 campaign, and a strong summer window could go some of the way to restoring the peace.
Martin O'Neill's side desperately need upgrades to their attack, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Daizen Maeda's future, and the link with Filet is a step in the right direction.
The fans will want to see the club being proactive in the market in the coming weeks, to ensure that they do not end up with their second or third-choice targets.
