Celtic must complete 24-year-old signing to replace West Ham-bound Arne Engels
Celtic must look to make a move for Milan Vitalis in the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window as the midfielder continues to impress for Gyori ETO.
The Hoops were heavily linked to the 24-year-old near the start of the summer transfer window, but nothing has transpired since.
However, the Hungary international’s form has continued as they aim to reach the league phase of the Conference League.
On Thursday, he helped Gyori ETO reach the third qualifying round of the competition as they drew 1-1 with Atert Bissen in the second leg, as they won 7-3 on aggregate.
Vitalis was crucial to their progression, with the midfielder scoring in the first leg against the Luxembourgian side.
Now, with Arne Engels closing in on joining West Ham after agreeing terms, Celtic should look to bring the 24-year-old to Parkhead.
Milan Vitalis continues to impress in Hungary
Vitalis’ stock was already incredibly high in Hungary.
The midfielder won the Nemzeti Bajnoksag I last season with ETO FC Gyor as they pipped Robbie Keane’s Ferencvaros to the title.
He was vital to this success as he netted 10 times and picked up six assists in 41 matches.
Now, this form has continued into the new season in the European qualifiers.
In the Champions League first qualifying round, Vitalis impressed despite their 3-2 aggregate defeat to Vikingur Reykjavik, with the midfielder netting in the second leg.
In his next game, he netted again, this time against Atert Bissen in the first leg of the Conference League second round qualifiers, with Vitalis clearly on form.
Now, with Celtic likely in need of a goalscoring midfielder ahead of Engels’ potential departure, the club should look to make a move for Vitalis.
The midfielder is in form and has now shown he can perform in Europe. Therefore, a move would make perfect sense for Martin O’Neill’s side.
What other business could Celtic complete this summer?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Fulham and Everton are chasing Alistair Johnston this summer.
Despite the defender struggling with injuries last summer, the Canada international has attracted interest from the Premier League.
Widespread reports have claimed that Everton are preparing to make a bid for his services and he is open to a Premier League switch.
However, it remains to be seen if Celtic would be prepared to sell Johnston so close to the start of the new campaign.
