Celtic will have to pay £4.4million if they want to sign long-term target Jakob Breum as Martin O’Neill eyes attacking reinforcements this summer.

The Go Ahead Eagles attacking midfielder has been regularly linked with a move to the Hoops since last summer, and their interest has seemingly been reignited in recent weeks.

After picking up 11 goal contributions in the Eredivisie this season, the Dutch side are now open to a sale.

Reports have emerged that Go Ahead Eagles will demand £4.4m for Breum despite his contract being up in 2027.

The Hoops previously saw an approach for the 22-year-old scrapped in the last winter window.

However, Celtic should be in no rush to pay the money as they now possess a perfect chance to get him on a free transfer.

Celtic should wait until January to make a move for Jakob Breum

Given that Breum’s contract is up next summer, the £4.4m asking price, reported by VI via the Daily Record, is steep for a club that is currently not in Europe.

Celtic do need a new attacking midfielder this summer, especially if Benjamin Nygren departs. However, they should not pay this fee.

Instead, Celtic should wait until January, and pick up Breum on a pre-contract agreement, ready for the 2027-28 campaign.

This should be an obvious transfer decision for the Hoops, as they can use these funds to focus on other targets and positions.

There is a risk that Celtic could potentially miss out on Breum going down this route. However, if the Hoops communicate their intent to the attacking midfielder, it could ensure that everything goes to plan.

Who else are Celtic tracking this summer transfer window?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Celtic are readying a move for Gyor midfielder Milan Vitalis this summer transfer window.

Scouts have been keeping track of the midfielder for a number of months, and he recently won the top-flight title in Hungary.

The Bhoys have been keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old's progress over in Hungary and have had scouts watching him on several occasions throughout the 2025-26 campaign.

However, with Aberdeen and Rangers also hunting for Vitalis’ signature, it remains to be seen if Celtic can win the race for the midfielder this summer transfer window.
