Celtic turn attention Will Ferry after successful transfer mission - journalist

Celtic have joined the race to sign Dundee United ace Will Ferry this summer transfer window.

Reports have emerged that the Hoops are keen to secure competition for Kiernan Tierney this summer and are eyeing the 25-year-old left-back as a potential signing.

Ferry was watched by Parkhead scout Tosh McKinlay several times last season, including in Dundee United’s 3-0 victory over Dundee, where the Republic of Ireland international scored two and assisted the other.

The defender has attracted plenty of interest already this summer, and the Tangerines had accepted a £1.7million bid from a Czech side, but Ferry opted to turn down the move.

The left-back is also reportedly wanted by MLS and Championship sides this summer after an impressive 2025-26 campaign.

Celtic are yet to make an offer themselves, while they have also been linked with AEK Athens defender James Penrice in recent days.

Celtic up intensity on left-back pursuit

It is clear that Celtic are now upping their hunt for a new left-back this summer.

It was confirmed last week that the Hoops were not going to re-sign Marcelo Saracchi, who had a successful spell at Celtic Park on loan last season.

However, since this news broke, left-backs are continuing to be linked to the club, with The Courier’s report on Ferry being the latest.

So far this summer, Martin O’Neill’s side have only brought in one player, with Celtic continuing to have their slow starts to the transfer window.

However, it remains to be seen if Ferry will be the next new face through the door as the club looks to solve their lack of depth at left-back.

What can Will Ferry bring to Celtic?

According to Fotmob on 22 July, Ferry was one of Dundee United’s best players at the club last season.

The full-back proved to be an attacking mastermind and created all sorts of problems up top for the opposition.

Per 90 minutes, he was averaging 0.12 goals, 0.05 xG, 0.19 assists, 0.28 xA, 2.46 chances created and 2.53 successful crosses in the Scottish Premiership.

As a result, if this can be replicated at Celtic, he could prove to be an excellent option for O’Neill if he needs to go more attacking in a match.
