Celtic are hoping to strike a deal to sign Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Balasz Toth for below his £4million asking price, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at Blackburn in June 2027, and is increasingly likely to be sold, having rejected multiple offers of a new deal.

Udinese hold a strong interest in the Hungarian and are understood to be readying a bid for him, while Bundesliga side Hamburg are also keen.

Sources have indicated that Celtic, alongside the pair of other potential suitors, would look to strike a cut-price deal, rather than meeting the full asking price.

Toth's future at Blackburn is hugely uncertain, and the Championship outfit are aware that this is their final chance to cash in on the gloveman.

Celtic are big admirers of the shot-stopper, and still view the addition of a new goalkeeper as one of their top priorities before the upcoming deadline.

Celtic face European battle for Balasz Toth

Toth was an impressive performer for Blackburn last season, but he now appears to be approaching the end of his time at Ewood Park.

His career has gone from strength to strength during his time with Rovers, and he has plenty of interest as a result this summer.

Toth managed eight clean sheets from 34 league appearances last term, and was voted as Blackburn's Player's Player of the Year at the end of the campaign.

His form also saw him gain international recognition with Hungary for the first time, and his stock is currently at a high at the start of the new season.

The level of interest in him has only continued to build in recent weeks, and Celtic are now facing a serious battle to win the race for his signature.

Udinese are on the verge of making their move, and it remains to be seen whether Celtic will respond.

Celtic to overcome Nick Pope transfer hurdle with 'four-year' offer

Celtic to overcome Nick Pope hurdle with 'four-year' offer

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider last weekend that Nick Pope's wages will make it very difficult for Celtic to sign him this summer.

The Newcastle veteran is another goalkeeper on Celtic's list of targets, but it is understood that they would have to break their wage structure to land the 34-year-old.

However, Wyness believes that they could potentially get around that issue by offering Pope a "four-year" deal to move to Celtic Park.

The Scottish businessman is adamant that offering long-term security could set the Bhoys ahead in the race for Pope, and may neglect the need for a truly lucrative contract.
