Celtic are now unlikely to seal an eye-catching deal for Torino’s Gvidas Gineitis before the summer transfer window closes.

Reports have indicated that Celtic’s elimination from the Champions League on Tuesday could cause the club to alter its transfer plans.

Progression into the league phase would have generated the club at least another £40million.

With this money now lost, the Old Firm club may not struggle to afford the 22-year-old, with Torino demanding around £10m.

Celtic have already seen a £6.5m bid rejected by the Italian club this summer for the Lithuania international.

Now, any chance of Martin O’Neill and the Hoops sealing a deal before 3 September appears to be over.

Celtic’s embarrassing defeat to LASK to alter transfer plans

After Celtic’s shock 5-4 defeat to LASK on aggregate on Tuesday, the club will have to alter their transfer plans.

Sky Sports had reported that had the Old Firm club qualified for the Champions League’s league stage, they were expected to spend in excess of £20m this week on Gineitis and Slovan Liberec's Ermin Mahmic.

However, the loss of the additional funds from Champions League qualification, and no longer having the lure of the competition, has put these deals in doubt.

Celtic are in the market for a couple of central midfielders, a goalkeeper, left-back, right-back and possibly even a left winger, but if they want to bring in players in all these positions, loans may be needed.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen what business the Hoops are now able to complete after one of the worst results in their history.

When is the Europa League draw?

Now that Celtic are out of the Champions League, they are now preparing for a return to the Europa League’s league stage.

The draw for this phase takes place on 28 August, with the Hoops set to be Scotland’s only representatives.

In the draw, Celtic will find out which eight opponents they will face over the coming months.

The complete fixture schedule will then be confirmed following the draw, with the game set to be played until the end of January.

Last season, Celtic were able to qualify from the league phase, but were later knocked out by Stuttgart in the knockout playoff round.
