Martin O'Neill's stance on whether Sebastian Tounekti can turnaround his Celtic career

Celtic are not prepared to sell struggling winger Sebastian Tounekti just yet, sources have told Football Insider.

Martin O'Neill is keen to keep his first-team squad intact for the rest of the campaign, and still believes that the 24-year-old can turn his fortunes around.

The Bhoys are not ready to show the wideman the door in the January window, but there is a growing sense that he needs to step up his performances.

Sources say that pressure is building on Tounekti to start performing at Celtic Park, after a series of poor displays to start the season.

He started the heavy 3-0 defeat to Rangers last weekend, but was withdrawn at half-time as part of a disastrous team performance.

Celtic rely on Tounekti to produce an attacking threat, but his only goal contributions this season have come in the Premier Sports Cup.

Sebastian Tounekti at risk of losing his place

Tounekti has turned in a number of sub-par performances at the start of this season, and he didn't end the last campaign in confident form either.

Celtic made significant additions in the attacking areas last term, and as a result, the Tunisia international is now at serious risk of losing his place in the team.

Nevertheless, O'Neill knows that he needs his entire squad on board if they are to compete in both the Scottish Premiership and the Europa League for the entire season.

He and the club still have hope that Tounekti can develop into the player they hoped he could become, and he is tied down at Parkhead until at least 2030.

Celtic are not planning any "knee-jerk" reactions to sell Tounekti as a result of his disappointing displays, but that could change come the end of the season.

Celtic battle to sign Liverpool star

Football Insider revealed last week that Celtic are hugely keen to sign young Liverpool left-back Luke Chambers in January.

The 22-year-old was involved with Andoni Iraola's pre-season plans at Anfield, but is expected to head out on loan when the next opportunity arises.

Chambers is firmly on the radar as a target for Celtic, but also has interest from several clubs in the English Championship.

The Bhoys were hoping to strengthen the left side of their defence all summer, but were ultimately left without the addition that they needed.
