Sources: Celtic believe they can finalise sub-£4m transfer
Celtic believe that they can sign Hajduk Split midfielder Niko Sigur for a fee of less than £4million, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old is a long-term target for the Bhoys, who are once again making advancements towards a deal for him this summer.
Sigur is highly-regarded at Parkhead after a strong showing for Canada at the World Cup, and there is a feeling that a cheap deal could be on the cards.
The starlet only has two years remaining on his contract with Hajduk, and sources say that the Croatian outfit are aware that they cannot demand a "huge fee" for their star.
Celtic believe that there is a deal to be done for less than £4m, with the player reportedly keen on making the transfer happen in the coming weeks.
Sigur notched one goal and two assists from 29 league games last term, and can also play at right-back.
Michael Nicholson ready for Niko Sigur talks
Sigur has been on Celtic's radar for several months, and they are now finally ready to make their move for the Canadian.
The Bhoys are in the market for midfield reinforcements after losing Arne Engels to West Ham, and Sigur is one of several options on their shortlist at the moment.
Recent reports have suggested that Celtic's chief executive Michael Nicholson is set to engage in talks over a move for the Hajduk star in the coming days.
The Croatian side know that they are running out of time to cash in on the midfielder, and are prepared to accept a deal on the cheaper end of their valuation as a result.
Celtic have cash to spend after netting £22m for Engels, and a deal to sign Sigur is firmly within their capability.
Police Scotland ready to ban Celtic away fans
Former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee Keith Hackett told Football Insider on Monday that Police Scotland will pay serious consideration to banning Celtic's away fans for their Premier Sports Cup clash with Rangers.
The Bhoys have been drawn away at Ibrox in the quarter-final of the competition, and debates surrounding the away allocations are already taking place after several incidents of crowd trouble last season.
Hackett believes that the police will need full support from the government to ensure the safety of supporters at the game, and believes that additional officers and stewards will be needed at each entrance of Ibrox.
He also made it clear that the option of banning Celtic's away fans from the fixture altogether could also be on the table, as a result of last season's issues.
