Sources: Celtic 'confident' of sealing midfielder deal as medical booked
Celtic are "confident" that they can complete the signing of Joel van den Berg ahead of their 3 September deadline, sources have told Football Insider.
The PSV Eindhoven starlet is set to undergo a medical in Glasgow on Tuesday, as the Bhoys work to finalise his permanent switch to Celtic Park.
The Glasgow giants have reportedly agreed a deal worth £3million for the 19-year-old, having made significant progress in negotiations in recent days.
Martin O'Neill's side view the youngster as a player with huge potential to develop in the future, despite the fact that he possesses limited senior experience.
The midfielder made five senior appearances in the Eredivisie last term, but spent the majority of the season playing in the second tier with PSV's reserve side.
He notched seven goals and three assists from just 26 games in that league, and it is that form that has caught Celtic's attention.
Celtic buy for the future with Joel van den Berg
Celtic have already secured the additions of several stars who have gone straight into their starting XI this summer.
However, in Van den Berg, they are now on the verge of signing someone who is likely to be more of a long-term project.
O'Neill and Co. have needed reinforcements in the middle of the park for several months now, and Van den Berg will provide them with a project that they can truly nurture over time.
With Callum McGregor now into the twilight of his career, the Bhoys will need someone to take the reins in the middle of the park long-term.
Van den Berg is seen as a player who could potentially step into that role, even if he doesn't become a key part of the team straight away.
The youngster is a relative unknown given his lack of first-team experience at PSV, but Celtic are confident that he is an exciting project for them.
Celtic could sell new summer signing for '£30m'
Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider last weekend that Celtic could easily sell new forward Camilo Duran for "£30m" in the coming years.
The 24-year-old has emerged as a star for the Bhoys already, despite only joining them for £6m from Qarabag earlier in the summer.
Wyness outlined that Celtic could likely sell Duran for £15m right now, after he has notched five goals and one assist from his opening six games for the club.
However, he urged them to be patient with their investment, and feels that they could potentially have a future £30m player on their hands.
